How Tall Is the Tallest Mountain?

Mount Everest sits on the border of Nepal and China, and its peak is the highest place on Earth, about 8,849 metres above the sea. That is so high that airplanes fly at about the same height. Everest is even growing a tiny bit taller each year, about 4 millimetres, because giant pieces of the Earth's surface are slowly pushing together underneath it.
