Why Is the Ocean Salty?

The ocean is salty because rivers carry tiny bits of salt from rocks and soil into the sea. Over , all that salt has built up. A bucket of ocean water has about 35 of salt in it — that is about two tablespoons! Lakes and rivers are not as salty because the salt keeps washing through them and out to the ocean.
